Taking Control of Our Health, One Step at a Time

April is recognized as National Minority Health Month, an initiative led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to raise awareness about health disparities affecting communities of color and to encourage healthier lifestyles through education and action.

At 107.5 JAMZ, we’re committed to empowering our community — and that includes helping you take charge of your health.

Why This Matters

Many preventable health conditions — including high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers — continue to impact minority communities at higher rates.

But here’s the truth:
Small, consistent steps can lead to big changes.

When we become more informed and proactive, we give ourselves and our families a better chance at longer, healthier lives.

Know Your Numbers. Know Your Power.

One of the simplest ways to take control of your health is by knowing key health indicators:

  • Blood pressure

  • Blood sugar (glucose)

  • Cholesterol levels

  • Body mass index (BMI)

These numbers tell a story — and catching changes early can help prevent serious health issues down the road.

Prevention Starts with Everyday Choices

You don’t have to overhaul your entire lifestyle overnight. Start with small, realistic changes:

  • Add more fruits and vegetables to your meals

  • Stay active — even a daily walk makes a difference

  • Drink more water and reduce sugary drinks

  • Get enough sleep and manage stress

  • Schedule regular checkups with your doctor

Progress, not perfection, is the goal.

Break the Cycle, Build the Future

Health habits are often passed down through generations — but so is the power to change them.

By making healthier choices today, you’re not just helping yourself — you’re setting a new standard for your family, your children, and your community.

Let’s Take Action Together

This April, we encourage the JAMZ community to:

  • Schedule a wellness check

  • Ask questions about your health

  • Encourage a loved one to get checked

  • Support local health initiatives in your area

Because when we take care of ourselves, we take care of each other.

Your Health Is Your Power

At 107.5 JAMZ, we believe knowledge is power — and your health is one of your greatest assets.

This month, let’s commit to being more aware, more proactive, and more intentional about our well-being.

Take control. Stay informed. Live stronger.
