Breast Cancer Awareness: Early Detection Saves Lives

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to spotlight the importance of regular screenings, education, and community support. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women, but early detection through self-exams and mammograms can make a life-saving difference.

The Power of Self-Exams
A monthly self-breast exam is a simple, personal step that can help detect changes early. While not a substitute for professional screenings, self-exams keep you aware of your own body and empower you to recognize when something doesn’t feel right.

Why Mammograms Matter
Doctors recommend that women aged 40 and older schedule yearly mammograms, or earlier if they have higher risk factors such as family history. Mammograms can detect tumors that are too small to be felt and are the best tool available for early detection.

Accountability Saves Lives
Sometimes, life gets busy and appointments get pushed aside. That’s where accountability partners come in. Encourage a friend, sister, or coworker to stay on track by reminding each other to do self-checks and schedule mammograms. Supporting one another can make this important health step less overwhelming—and more routine.
