National Impaired Driving Prevention Month: Have a Plan Before You Celebrate

The holiday season is a time for joy, connection, and celebration. But it’s also one of the most dangerous times of the year on America’s roads. December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, a reminder that every festive gathering should start with a simple question:

“How am I getting home safely?”

Each year, thousands of preventable crashes occur because someone made the decision to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The holidays bring more travel, more late-night events, and more opportunities for impaired driving to happen — but they also give us the chance to encourage better choices and protect our community.

Why Planning Ahead Matters

Impaired driving doesn’t just impact the person behind the wheel. It affects families, neighborhoods, and entire communities. A single decision can change a life forever — but so can planning ahead.

Before heading out this season, take a moment to decide:

  • Who’s the designated driver?
Make it official before the first toast.

  • Are you using rideshare or taxi services?
A few dollars spent on safety is always worth it.

  • Are you staying overnight?
Sometimes the smartest option is to stay put.

  • Can you help someone else get home safely?
Look out for friends, coworkers, and loved ones.

Alcohol Isn’t the Only Risk

Impaired driving isn’t just about drinking. Prescription medications, fatigue, recreational drugs, and even certain over-the-counter medicines can slow reaction time and impair judgment. If you’re not in the best condition to drive, there’s no shame in choosing another way home.

Let’s Celebrate Responsibly

At 107.5 JAMZ, we want everyone to enjoy the season — the music, the parties, the memories — and still make it home safely. When we plan ahead, we protect what matters most: our lives, our families, and our community.

This month, join us in spreading awareness and encouraging safe decisions. A simple plan can save a life — maybe even your own.

Celebrate smart. Drive sober. Arrive safely.
